Volunteer Opportunities

If you aren't looking for a committee appointment, but would still like to serve PPS, this is for you. PPS reaches out to volunteers in the On-Call Database when short-term assignments become available. This includes supporting committees when they need extra assistance, serving in focus-groups, becoming a booth volunteer at conferences, and serving as other opportunities become available throughout the year. Individuals in this database will be the first we call when new volunteer needs arise within the section.

Only available to Administrators' Network members

The Administrators' Network, a partner program exclusive to the Private Practice Section (PPS), identifies and develops relevant and valuable educational resources for physical therapist-owned business administrators and office managers. The Network additionally provides networking opportunities for the exchange of business and practice management strategies. All Administrators' Network members must be employees of an active PPS member; administrators must be non-PTs and may not be eligible for membership in PPS or APTA.

The Annual Conference Program Work Group (AC PWG) identifies, selects, and develops relevant, innovative and valuable educational programming for physical therapist-owned businesses during PPS Annual Conference & Exhibition. The AC PWG evaluates the annual conference in its entirety and makes recommendations for changes and improvements.

The Awards Committee identifies and manages the annual recognition of members and non-members who have made exceptional contributions to the section and the profession.

The Section awards include: Dicus Award, Jayne L. Snyder Private Practice Award, and Friend of Private Practice Award.

The Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) Program Workgroup identifies and develops relevant and suitable educational programming on business and practice management for presentations during APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting.

The Finance Committee monitors and reviews the financial activities of the Section, including its operational budget, investments, grants, peer reviews, and accounting firm audits.

The Education Committee assesses and recommends business management, practice management, and leadership Education for PPS members. The Education Committee will coordinate with other PPS committees on education initiatives as well as identify educational gaps and avoid content duplication.

The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) monitors legislation and regulatory activities affecting physical therapist-owned businesses, participates in coordinated activities with the Section’s Lobbyist, completes Section strategic plan objectives, and encourages grassroots action from the Section membership in support of key legislative priorities.

The Impact Editorial Board develops the editorial direction, themes, and content for Impact, the official section print and digital magazine.

The Marketing & PR Committee promotes the physical therapy profession, physical therapist-owned businesses, and the section to society, legislators, payers, health care providers, organizations, and others utilizing various marketing and public relations initiatives. The Committee provides members with marketing and PR tools and resources to promote the success of physical therapist-owned businesses.

The Payment Policy Committee reviews and monitors issues related to commercial insurance, workers compensation, and other healthcare-related payer organizations. The Committee provides informational resources to the membership and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on possible actions.

The mission of the Institute of Private Practice Physical Therapy (Institute) is to foster understanding, learning, research and related projects to advance private practice physical therapy. To this end the Institute develops cutting-edge events and provides resources to address the critical and emerging issues and competencies important for physical therapists aspiring to, and already in private practice. The Institute also strives to fill gaps in health policy research and analysis by providing funding to foster critical health policy projects relevant to physical therapist autonomous practice.

The Key Contact Task Force is a task force under the Government Affairs Committee (GAC). Its purpose is to help recruit PPS members to serve as Key Contacts for the Section. Key Contacts serve as a primary contact to each federal legislator (Senator or Representative). They establish valuable relationships with their legislators to increase awareness of the key issues facing physical therapist-owned businesses and their patients.
