Candidate Statement
My name is Carrie Cunningham, and I work at Resurgens Orthopaedics, a physician-owned group in Atlanta, GA. I currently hold the role of Rehab Area Manager, manage seven of the 24 Rehab clinics, and am responsible for almost 40% of the total rehab revenue of the company. I practice three days a week in the clinic, and two days a week, I serve in multiple critical roles, including administrative, mentoring staff, growth, and hiring and training leaders and staff. I lead all-staff and management meetings and collaborate with our Physician board members, communicating and collaborating to improve patient outcomes and care. My colleagues look to me for continuing to push them forward with professional trends and quality goals. My responsibilities include overseeing quality assurance committees and improving our teams' engagement, hiring, communication, and orientation processes. I am most proud of the advocacy work that I have participated in. I continue to advocate and encourage our leaders and staff to advocate for the profession and for themselves, and some great strides have been made in our relationships with the group I work for and APTAGA.
My strengths lie in connecting with people and connecting them to others. I can encourage and motivate people to act. My diverse background allows me to connect quickly and easily with others. This skill comes naturally to me and has been further developed in my managerial, therapist, and volunteer jobs.
Most recently, in PPS, I have written some articles for Impact and am currently volunteering on the finance committee. I have served APTAGA and APTA in several other roles; most notably, my role on the APTA nominating committee prepared me for the role of nominating committee member for the Private Practice Section. I truly understand the process and the work that needs to be done. While serving on the leadership development committee, as a delegate for Georgia, and leading and teaching advocacy at local universities, I understand the importance of finding great leaders to help establish our future. I have been a Private Practice member for almost 10 years. This Section is my home. The people I have had the pleasure of getting to know are some of the most generous and kind I have met. Honestly, I have been doing the work of being a nom com member for Private Practice because it is just who I am. I want to see people succeed. I want to see the Private Practice Section succeed. I want to see small, medium, large, mobile, telehealth, and all practices find ways to build each other up and help push our profession forward. In my advocacy for the Section and local, State, and national issues, I have built connections with State and national leaders and helped motivate patients, therapists, and legislators with the passing of Georgia's HB505, which improved our right to direct access. I continue to mentor and attend Georgia's PT day at the capitol and have previously served as a key contact for the Section.
I think back to how I became a member of the Private Practice Section, and I was invited by someone. Invitation is how many relationships and connections begin, with being welcoming and inviting - they started with an invitation - I would invite you to think about your why - ask yourself how can you serve others? How can you serve the Section? When you have your answer, come talk with me - right after you vote for me.
