As Medicare audits continue to rise in frequency and scrutiny, comprehensive and defensible documentation has become indispensable for the sustainability of private practices. This session equips physical therapists and clinic owners with proven strategies to navigate audits successfully while responsibly incorporating emerging AI technologies. Participants will analyze real-world audit scenarios, examine prevalent audit types (e.g., Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE), Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT), and Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC)), and gain insight into the significant consequences of unsuccessful audits, including claim denials, substantial overpayment recoupments, financial penalties, and potential exclusion from Medicare participation.
